In a serious essay from a well-researched point of view, Professor Sadik J. Al-Azm of the University of Damascus tells us that we can expect triumph over the Islamist terrorists, because historically, philosophically and militarily they are incapable of imposing their wishes on us for long.
Sir George, one of Emperor Misha's knights at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler blog, quotes the Professor to show that we are winning the war on terror.
We may yet win the war. We may win, but not for the Professor's reasons of the inferiority of the Islamist's case. We will win when we kill all the major Islamist players. The Professor may have written a masterwork, but my impression of it is that it is a "Maskirovka", or stage-play meant to lull us into a false sense of security so that we tone down our war.
First of all, he cites cases of well-known islamists, but never quotes them. His research should have led him to the writings or preachments of these people. The reason he doen't quote them is that they have a singular viewpoint, "kill the infidels". This monochrome vision of the islamists is well suited to the usual meglomania of tyrants.
We need to look at the islamist terrorists as a loosely-knit bunch of meglo tyrants, and leave the fine points of Islam out of the discussion, no matter how many Islamic professors try to bring them in.
This war is with Islamists, to be sure, but we are fighting the same fight that all forces of Good have fought with Evil since fighting became an art. And that, my friends, predates Islam, by thousands of years.
