The Grouchy Old Cripple in Atlanta brings the culture divide into focus with this little gem.
I've been trying to decide how to write this post for over a month now, by far the longest I've dithered on any subject since starting to blog a little less than two years ago.
This crystallized it.
I am now convinced that the cultural divide that splits our nation into the "Reds" and "Blues" cannot be bridged by any known organization, any religion or church, and especially not by any one leader, no matter how brilliant or charismatic.
This gulf, now as bad as the gulf that existed between the Confederate States and the Union 145 years ago, can only be ended by war and an imposed peace afterward.
So, probably at the 150-year point from the start of the last Civil War, we shall have another one.
Once again, families will be split apart, once again, sons (and this time, daughters) will go off to fight their countrymen (and women), and once again, the side with the bravest fighters will lose.
Yes, the "United" States of America will at last then be a socialist dictatorship when the smoke clears from the fields of battle. Those of us who fight now with words will probably fight with guns then, and while we may make it damn uncomfortable for the Blues, they would win because they will have almost all of the modern warfighting equipment and training.
The Blue-Left is not right, they lied and cheated and stole to get their power, but the Red-Right never effectively challenged them, and even in 2004, when the Right side had the votes, they put in power a good, but weak man who couldn't lead or wouldn't lead, (the jury is still out). That was effectively the Red-Right's last chance, and they have blown it.
The divide that the poll shows so starkly will now get even worse, and any one of a dozen scenarios could set off the actual bloodshed. The recent civil unrest in France showed the way to the "disaffected youth", and there have been a few copycat attempts at firebombing, including one this week right here in Stumptown (the idiot must have flunked Revolution 101, because none of his three Molotov cocktails exploded).
No, we can do nothing to stop the slide into chaos and civil war. We've had chances, and we've collectively blown every chance. The Blue-Left can put a "Million Man March" or a "Million Mom March" onto the streets of the Nation's Capital, but the Red-Right wouldn't dream of taking their cause to the streets.
We've been suckered and propagandized into grumbling submission by the media, which deliberately distorts our side of things. Do we protest? Have we demonstrated in the streets and overturned any NewsCruisers? No. Do we put on "Red Pride" parades? No, but there are plenty of G/L/TG "pride" parades, and their wacko leaders are presented to us as idols by the MSM. We elect Blue-Lefty clowns as Mayors of most of our cities, then bluster and grumble in the editorial pages and on our blogs how the Blue-Left is wrecking our culture and civilization.
We allow our civic leaders to spend our tax money on idiotic symbols like "Sister-city" programs, which are nothing more than excuses for the Lame Blue Left to travel on OUR tax dollars. Have you noticed where all those "Sister" cities are? They are all in socialist countries, and while our civic leaders are over there, being wined and dined, they are also getting brainwashed into believing that those simpering sisters have a better way of doing things than the rules our Founding Fathers laid down for us, so they bring back idiotic ideas like "traffic calming", which takes a nice, wide, fast boulevard and cuts it up into narrow lanes, islands and traffic circles so the excess of automobiles has to move even slower.
No, we are the Red Rightys. It is not in our makeup to be completely converted into tax-cash cows chained to the socialist money-milking machines to pay for all this claptrap and nonsense. We will, at some point not too distant, decide that we've had enough.
THEN we'll take to the streets, and after the Blue Authority decides to put us down firmly, we will start to shoot back, and the war will be on. We will be fewer in number though, and the few among us who have the training to lead will not be able to train and equip enough forces fast enough to put up enough of a fight.
So, we will be slaughtered in the thousands. We will be forced to fight gunship helos with hunting rifles, Abrams tanks with Molotov cocktails, and battalions of combat-experienced troops with ragtag squads of irregular infantry composed of old men. We will lose.
No, that's not correct.
We've already lost.
But, we'll fight anyway, and maybe, just maybe, if we get THIS message across, we might yet win, because the Blue-Left doesn't have the stomach for a fight, IF THEY CAN'T GET SOMEONE ELSE TO FIGHT FOR THEM, and right up until the bullets start to fly, they will deny that's it's about to happen, and when the bullets DO fly, they will hide.
We can't beat them with the cards in our hand. We DO, however, know how to bluff, and if we show enough resolve, soon enough, enough readiness, soon enough, and look them right in their watery cow-eyes, we might just scare them off the table and out of the game.
In 1860, fully one half of the United States Marine Corps left the service, and formed the Confederate States Marine Corps. What's the evidence that the figure for the current USMC wouldn't be closer to 70-80% Red-right?
I don't see that the combat arms in the Army are that different.
I likewise think civil war may be a real danger. But I see no reason to expect to lose, though I think it should be avoided for other reasons. The economic devestation, which could allow unfree states like China to take the lead of humanity's future, is reason enough to try to avoid conflict.
