Bridge collapse, Redux
Not lookin' good in MN. The Guv'nr admits that the bridge failed a Federal Structural inspection, getting only 50 out of 120 points.
Guv'nr was asked by a Fox News reporter if any funds had been diverted from bridge maintenance and repair budgets to fund the light rail project (Light Rail is a liberal darling in many cities now, including my own). He changed the subject.
The Hennepin County Sheriff allowed as how the recovery of bodies from the river was going to take a while, BECAUSE HE CONSIDERS THE ENTIRE DISASTER SCENE A CRIME SCENE, AND MUST PROCESS IT ACCORDINGLY.
Somebody is going down for this. Maybe several somebodies.
Now, the overarching question is:
If other cities' bridges similarily failed this Federal inspection, will they be shut down? Or restricted from heavy trucks? Or their cantilevered outside lanes closed?
Money is the root of all evil, so the answer to all those questions will be a resounding "NO".
Just bear that in mind when you hop on any freeway bridge not built in the last 10 years or so.
Political bottom line: the Democrats, who have run most of Minnesota for decades, have touted themselves as the party that knows how to make government work. If they can't keep bridges up, they pretty much have to admit THAT boast is a lie.
How interesting!
There has been no mention of it being a crime scene back here in VA.
