Result: not skunked, caught a bass. One boat, 6 guests, 4 poles, no salmon. Saw plenty on the fishfinder, but couldn't get any to bite. Had the three best lures on, fishing at the right depth, for 7 hours, over two tides. Did find a hot hole for walleye, will be back there soon with more and better walleye gear.
Bleahhh!
In the past week, bad ju-ju has swept the yacht club. One boat blew up a transmission during the best offshore salmon run in decades, is sitting in port waiting for parts. Another ran over an underwater snag in the navigation channel, tore off all the propulsion gear and jammed the rudder, had to spend the night on board (fortunately, knows how to emergency anchor), and yesterday, my best buddy Suds was out for an evening dingy ride and ran over an underwater obstacle with metal on it and ripped out one whole side of his Zodiac, dumping him and his brand-new 4-stroke Mercury outboard into the river. He swam with the half-sunken dink for 20 minutes, had it almost ashore before the rescue boat got there. I helped him restore the motor to operations last night (am worn out myself today). The $2000 Zodiac is a total loss, too badly ripped to be patched.
Well, Dang! What were you doing out of bed, tempting fate like that!

One of the things that happened to me with a boat, was I wrapped a sheet of plastic (like a large plastic bag) around the prop. Thought I had hit an obstruction while in the back bay channel to the ocean (near the Coast Guard Training base in Cape May, NJ) Felt like I had bent the prop, heavy vibration. Idled all the way back to the docking area in Wildwood. Several miles, at least. Had a couple BIG boats (30+footers) pass me very close, trying to swamp me it seemed. (Wide channel, no reason to come anywhere near me) They nearly did. Made me wonder if they recognized the boat, and disliked my dad!
Boat was a 16' Correct Craft ski boat with a 318cu" Chrysler V8. Only one in the area.
Neat boat, was up on plane before you could get the throttle open fully. Had a speedo, would top out at 50-55mph. On plane, it would do a 180* turn in maybe 50 ft. And bank nearly 90* doing it! That turning ability saved my butt one day.
They were originally designed to tow large groups of skiers for the shows at Cypress Gardens. That's why the engine and gearing. Dad sometimes used it as a tug, to push or tow big boats.

That's a good information, since I'm also an addict in fishing. But I dont know what is the best deep to have fishing. Sometimes, if I do fishing, I cant catch more fish. But wth this informtaion, I think I can catch now many fish.
