Just for drill, I re-read my blogs pertaining to the Aurora, CO theater massacre. These blogs are in the July Archives from the 20th to the end of that month, and August archive, for the First only.
I was struck by two things as I read only the blogs selected under the "2A" heading: The knee-jerk reactions were the same, but there WAS one major difference: many otherwise liberal editorial writers of the time actually asked the liberals to quit "dancing in the blood", as I call it, i.e., using the event to push a political agenda (gun control) even before the bodies had cooled off to room temperature. This time, there was no such restraint by any editor, anywhere, that I could find. All the Left danced in the blood of those teachers and children in Newtown, CT.
Could it be that the Editors feel that they are free to dance in the blood because, in the final debate before the election, a Brady Bunch plant in the "town hall" asked Obama what he was going to do about gun control, and he then replied that he would push it if re-elected?
When this Nation was founded, there was mass media of a sort, the "Pamphleteers". The Founders could easily have written in the mass media into the Constitution, but they didn't, except to say that they would forever be free to express their opinions via the First Amendment.
One wonders what the Founders would have said had they been able to glimpse the future and note that the mass media is the single most powerful political force in the country, and it destroys utterly the balance of power among the Three Branches that the Founder worked so hard to define.
