They had an SRO, who stopped it after 80 seconds. The SRO moved to the sound of the gun, confronted the shooter, who then suck-started the shotgun. High schools are, by design, big places, with multiple buildings and multiple entrance points. There is no way one SRO can provide absolute security, and that's not our job. To provide total security at a high-school campus would take multiple officers, metal detectors, and positive movement control. Like a state prison or a major airport. Take your choice.

However, it's better to have one, good, trained officer who is willing to confront the problem. The SRO did his job and did it remarkably well.
