"everyone who cares about Penn State University"

That'd be what? Half-dozen folks tops? I never even heard of JoePa until the scandal broke. Then the context was "old, tired man who let his Asst Coach bugger boys". To the vast majority of the nation, that's his legacy.

Winnin'-est coach? In what conference? If it ain't SEC, it ain't football.

NCAA is just as stupid as everyone else in this world, it seems.
I can see a five year ban, but to rewrite history like this?

Chris Byrne, the Anarchangel, set out the best array of penalties that would punish the wrongdoers and encourage reporting of other offenders within the NCAA program:

This action of NCAA apparently attempting to rewrite history might have the effect of inducing further coverups of other wrongdoing at other places, almost as if the Penn State football program were killed.

Oops. "mean the games wereN'T won" - sorry.

Re Penn State ONLY: I agree that this punishment unfairly strikes innocent, unknowing players, year after year, from the past into the future. Remember, it was the PLAYERS that won the games. The coach stood on the sidelines, when he wasn't "doing diddly". And stripping him of his official wins still doesn't mean the games were won, with him as coach. It wasn't fantasy football!
