#1 is proper. It is less than useful to be responding to media spin about stuff that may have no basis in fact. Garbage is the rule for the first days after an incident. This problem is almost entirely due to media desperation to put something in front of the public.
Keeping your mouth shut until you have actual targets to aim at is an important tactic. Trying to retract after shooting off your mouth is not very effective. Let's leave that to the Leftoids.

Other than that, I agree. I'd really like to see LaPierre and his buddies take a hike. His obvious focus is to make money, not fight the Left/gun grabbers. I'd like to see a rule that anyone employed by the NRA have a strict lifetime term limit on paying positions. Maybe 5 years. Something like that.
